Welcome to the USS Gray DE/FF– 1054 Org website. We are a group or former crew members keeping the USS Gray’s memory alive.

At the time of her decommissioning, she was homeported in Teasure Island, California, serving as a training platform in COMSURFRON Three. The Knox-class frigates, all of which have been retired, fulfilled a Protection of Shipping (POS) mission as Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) combatants for amphibious expeditionary forces, underway replenishment groups and merchant convoys. Aircraft 1 - SH-2F (SeaSprite LAMPS I) BPDMS (Sea Sparrow RIM 7 from 8 tube box launcher)  SLQ-26 Nixie towed torpedo decoy Prarie masker Radar SPS 40B (Air search) SPS 10 (Surface search) MK 1 (target designator), MK 68 (gun fire control) MK 114 (antisubmarine fire control) Sonar SQS 35 IVDS,SQS 26 CX (bow mount) SQR-18V or SQR-18A (towed array) Complement 285 (18 officers, 267 enlisted)(active duty ships) 175 USN (10 USN officers, 165 USN enlisted)+; Approx. 150 reserve personnel: (9 officers, 141 enlisted)(NRF ships)

Commissioned April 4 1970.
Reclassified Frigate (FF-1054) on June 30 1975.
Decommissioned June 29 1991.
Stricken January 11 1995.
Fate Disposed of on 11 Oct 2000 at Hunters point Naval shipyard San Francisco Ca. Scrapped  July 2001.
